What makes you tick? Do you have goals?

If you do, how have you pursued them? Half-heartedly or relentlessly? What makes you pursue the goal relentlessly like hyenas bent on robbing the lions of their kills?

Come to think of it, do you tick at all?

Do you pursue anything at all in life or are you just drifting along, letting the tide of the day beats you around? I don’t.

Actually, I lied. I have goals but have not really pursued them they way a stubborn rottweiller pursued an intruder.

The thing is I just let the mind do the pursuing while I do the couch-potatoing.

A mind game

That is the problem with us sometimes.

We don’t believe in pursuing our goals physically and mentally; and believe even less in pursuing them unceasingly every moment of our waking life.

I wish that lightning would strike me

You know what? Sometimes I wish that a lightning would strike me.

A lightning that won’t be too strong to kill or paralyse me but enough to re-align the wiring inside my brain and make me a genius.

That way, I can accomplish my goals by the sheer power of my brain, like having the ability to comprehend the art of writing compellingly or compose music comparable to that of Mozart or produce paintings destine to be a classic like those of Da Vinci, Monet or Van Gogh.

But lightnings won’t strike to make a person genius. It strikes on its own terms.

So what does that leave me? Nothing, except to rely on the thing called the desire to pursue the goals.

Man, you just got to believe in what you are doing

Sometimes, to keep on going, you’ve just got to believe in what you are doing because if you believe, you will work hard and if you work hard you will eventually achieve a portion, if not a major part, of the goals.

You will be relentless in your pursuit and you will rise and keep on going when you fall. Because you believe.

Opps… I lied, again

Actually, I lied about having lied to you just now. Actually, I’m pursuing a goal right now and I have been doing that day in and day out, thinking about how to achieve it everyday and every hour, except when I am engross with work.

I’ve been burning the midnight oil and ignoring the sleepy eyes and the fatigue mind to pursue a dream. Because I believe in the goal that I have set myself on achieving. That is the single reason, I now come to realise, why I tick!

Diesel Price Down; Wish I Hadn’t Filled Up The Tank Today

A few days ago I read in the news that the government would announce the new price of fuel on Aug 31, to take effect on Sept 1.

Well, what do you know. The government decided that the new price should take effect tomorrow. The new price of diesel would be RM2.50 per litre, down from RM2.58 while the RON97 petrol would be RM2.55 per litre, down from RM2.70 a litre.

RON92 petrol to cost at RM2.40 from RM2.62 a litre.

The thing is, an hour before the announcement, I had filled-up my tank, all RM90 of diesel which I think could last me until Sept 1 when the new price would take effect.

For RM90, I got 34.88 litres. But had I known that the price would drop tomorrow, I could have waited until tomorrow. With the new diesel price, I could get 36 litres. That’s thirty-six freakin’ litres, or about 1.5 litres more than what I got today.

You know what? The 1.5 liters could take me about 20km, the distance between my office and home.

Wait a minute. Does this mean that the government will still announce a new fuel price on Aug 31, to take effect on Sept 1?

Anyway, happy or not, I hope the price will continue to drop, which is unlikely as the global fuel price is seemed to be on a rebound.

It’s Been Quite A While, Isn’t It?

Seventeen days to be exact without a blog post on Jaxon’s Review. The truth is I was down with a nasty fever.

I didn’t know what had hit me, although I was pretty sure it wasn’t dengue or that funny, tongue-twisting viral infection called the Chikunguya.

The tablets above are what the doctor had prescribed for my severe cough. In fact, I had asked for the strongest antibiotic he had in his clinic for I suspected that some mean worms were holing inside my lungs, but he told me I didn’t need the antibiotics. All I needed was medicine to bring the cough down.

Am still recuperating and only manage to summon my strength to resume blogging today, with my head still throbbing and my joints aching.

Which got me into thinking. Had I been a problogger — one who relies on blogging and blogging alone as a source of income — what potential loss of income I could have suffered during the 17 days of no blogging?

The issue still left me wondering. In the meantime, I’ve also found other use for the medicine. As a subject for my photography hobby.

Rambling: Give Me Death Or Give Me Liberty

Today is my Official Ramblings Day and this is the first post under the category. Today I would like to ramble about Patrick Henry, a prominent figure in the American Revolution.

Of course, I don’t know who Patrick Henry is, prior to today, that is. I bet many of you wouldn’t, unless history is your forte.

According to Wikipedia, Patrick Henry, (May 29, 1736 – June 6, 1799) was a prominent figure in the American Revolution, known and remembered primarily for his “Give me Liberty, or give me Death!” speech.

The speech came like a lyrics that cuts to the soul like a cutco knive, and echoed very much about America in today’s world. With a powerful statement like that, who needs “Black Velvet” lyrics, or, what’s-that-song-again “You Light Up My Life” lyrics to remind us of our responsibility to mankind.

It’s a powerful voice from the past, one that refuses to settle down like dusts in the wind. Too bad, many great men in history had the propensity of dying young. That’s the way the world operate sometimes. The good always die young.

Just look at Osama bin Laden. He’s very much around, still thinking he’s the world’s flag-bearer of moral behaviour, as though he was a beakon in the dark to provide us mortals the pathway from here to eternity. Hey, the guy from Boston can do better.

Anyway, enough of ramblings. Here’s a bit more about Henry, according to Wikipedia:

Henry is perhaps best known for the speech he made in the House of Burgesses on March 23, 1775, urging legislature to take military action against the encroaching British military force.

The House was undecided as to whether to send troops or not, but was leaning toward not committing troops. As Henry stood in Saint John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, he ended his speech with his most famous words:

“Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!”
