I’ve been following Rocky’s Bru since the day it was still known as “SSDD” or “Same Shit Different Day”, a phrase from Stephen King’s 2001 novel “Dreamcatcher”. Several weeks later he renamed the blog Rocky’s Bru.
Eight million in 30 months
From several hundreds visits a day, the blog has grown into what it is today, with traffic reaching almost eight million as I type this — a mean feat by any standard.
I reckon that if I had his kind of traffic, I would have already written my resignation letter and make a living out of blogging.
Hey, if John Chow can make up to US$34,000 a month from a blog, surely with Rocky’s kind of traffic I would have been able to make at least RM3,400 a month. No?
I wonder, then, why he hasn’t developed this prime cyber “real estate” of his. Maybe he didn’t need to blog for money. It’s also possible that he had no intention to exploit the commercial potential of his blog and didn’t want to “degrade” the blog by injecting commercialism into it.
But then again, it maybe because he didn’t know how to exploit the commercial value of Rocky’s Bru because I remember reading somewhere that he did try commercial blogging but without success.
It could also be that he started with his left foot in as far as choosing the blogging platform is concern.
He could have started the blog using his own domain name and hosted his blog somewhere. I guess he underestimated his blogging strength that he chose to start blogging from the safe ground of Google blogspot.
Now it’s a bit late — although not too late — to change direction. His blog is already too deeply rooted on Google blogspot despite the change in the domain name.
Rocky’s Bru losing PR
Anyway, back to the title of this blog entry, I wonder why Rocky’s Bru is losing PR. I don’t mean PR as in Pakatan Rakyat. You know what I mean — PR as in page rank. Google page rank.
From PageRank 5 (PR5) several weeks ago, Rocky’s Bru is now PR0. Why? I’m perplexed.
What wrong did Rocky do to deserve a PR0? He didn’t do paid blogging, he didn’t sell text link ads, no ReviewMe either, no PayPerPost, no Smorty. In short, no Google-incriminating elements as far as I know.
Which brings me to my next question — does Google PR still matter? I no longer think so although it will be good to have a good PR. Good for the ego at least.
Maybe Rocky’s Bru will get back its PR soon. Right now though the blog is taking a beating in terms of page rank. Any idea why?

Hm, I think as long as Google is king of the Internet, PR will matter, at least a little. I can never understand why folks don’t monetize – I mean unless they just don’t need the revenue. I once found a blogger who complained that it was impossible to make a living off his “art” but also felt it was artistically criminal to commercialize his website. Go figure.
I did lose some sleep when this blog’s PR dropped from 2 — going on 3 — to zero. I suspect it was due to the paid blogging I did in the past. I no longer do that and I still hope that one day I could regain the lost PR, which seems unlikely so long as the paid posts remain in this blog.
And another thing, people with good traffic who don’t monetise are leaving quite a bit sum of money on the table.
I think its because the blog is hosted on BlogSpot .. so Rocky may have inherited some of BlogSpot.com’s bad rep.
Technical issue..
I’m not sure how does this PR works but I assume the ranking is by popularity.
Bob K, on the other hand, I don’t think it’s because of Blogspot because other blogs with less traffic still manage to maintain their pr3 and above
Horizon, Rocky’s Bru is popular. I think hundreds of blogs are making a reference to it. I think it’s just Google misjudging his content…
My PR also dropped on October from 4 to 3. Hopefully it won’t drop again.
Hey, is there a section just for latest news
