If it ever occur to you that Googling or engaging in any online activity — except maybe surfing porn sites — is a waste of time, a new research suggests it is not.

On the contrary, the study concluded, doing Internet searches would increase mental activity and Googling is especially good for ageing brain, reports the Guardian.

Lead researcher Professor Gary Small of Center on Aging at the University of California, Los Angeles, said he believed the findings showed that engaging with technology could have important benefits for mental fitness.

“Internet searching engages complicated brain activity, which may help exercise and improve brain function,” he said.

The study further discovered that engaging in online activities stimulates the brain more than reading a book does.

I go online first thing in the morning, checking emails, accessing my affiliate sites, checking my Adsense ads performance; and in office, due to the nature of my job, my computer terminal is permanently hook on the Internet.

At home, before going to bed, it’s Googling again… and blogging and whatnots. I wonder what my brain scan would show to the researchers…
