Apocalypse Internet 2011?

As if Apocalypse 2012 is not enough to occupy the minds of doomsayers already, here’s another piece of news that should set the Internet citizen into thinking if their world is not heading into doomsday.

By 2011, demand for data on the www would outstrip the capacity of the Internet as communications would become more and more visually-enriched, putting a strain on the virtual world.

Will the Internet collapse soon, and sooner? At least, that is what I could glean from reading this New York Times article about the Internet is heading for a massive traffic jams.

“Caution: Heavy Internet traffic ahead. Delays possible,” the article begins, “For months there has been a rising chorus of alarm about the surging growth in the amount of data flying across the Internet…”
