When The Going Gets Tough, The Well-Trained Gets Going

I wish I had gone for training many years ago when I was still in my teen and early 20’s. I could have accomplished many more todate had I enrolled in many of the skills-enhancement programmes available at that time.
But back then, my priorities were different. All I wanted to do was to attend school, pass my exams, go to college, get my first degree and then set out to find a job, probably in the public service. Alas, the path to good career can be a thorny one — with twists and turns that you could face a real danger of being unemployed for life if you are unlucky and reckless.
After graduation, I wasted six years of my prime virtually unemployed because of the lack of skills. The competition for jobs was fierce as thousands of graduates, with papers to show but lacking the skills, flooded the job market. I passed time by doing odd jobs, sometimes as a salesman, other time selling cartoons to a local newspaper.
I was thankful though that I’d made one right decision when I entered university — and that was to stick to my interest in writing. I majored in creative and descriptive writing and that helped find me a job after I’d done wasting six years being unemployed.
Writing has since put food on the table. It has also bought me and the family a house and a sturdy car and send the kids to school.
Still, I could have achieved more. I could have taken Management Courses and enrich myself with the knowledge and management skills. There’s no denial that the more knowledgeable one is, the more the doors will open for him or her.
