Barack Obama, the man I want to see holding office in the White House, has been accused of plagiarism by Hillary Clinton’s camp after he uses as example certain phrases uttered by Governor Deval Patrick of Massachusetts sometime in 2006.
Obama is said to be stressing a point in an apparent defence against Clinton’s suggestions that he was merely a man of words rather than a man of deeds. A talker, not a doer, according to Clinton’s campaigners.
Obama had said that words mattered, and used the phrases “I have a dream” and “all men are created equal” as example of how words actually mattered. Then came the accusation of plagiarism.
Hmm… okay. This is a case of someone being accused of plagiarism for using the universal phrase “I have a dream”. Hey, there was even was a song that begins with that phrase, sung if I’m not mistaken by Swedish quartet Abba and then covered by Westlife, that starts with, “I have a dream, a song to sing…”
Obama says Clinton was digging too deep into the issue. Not only too deep, but also fetching foo far I think.
Meanwhile a top leader of an opposition party in Malaysia did the unplagiarable when he likens members of the ruling coalition’s main party to orang utan.
The man is Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, the chief minister of the opposition-ruled Kelantan state. The Malaysian general election is on March 8. Nomination is on Sunday.
