I certainly want to live beyond 2012 for I’m certain nothing cataclysmic would happen yet to planet earth that year, or specifically at 7.11am on December 22, 2012 in my timezone or 11.11pm on December 21, 2012 UST (Universal Standard Time).
That’s about five years from now. Barring unforeseen circumstances, such as accidents or fatal diseases, and if I was not among the exceptions of a longer life expectancy among males in Malaysia, I should still be alive and kicking when that time comes.
Apocalypse 2012
But I really do not want to be alive and kicking in my sick bed. I want to be as healthy as I am today so that I could witness the passing of 2012, that fateful year predicted to be an apocalyptic one for mankind.
Well, I’m not that healthy today in the true sense of the word, but at least I’m functioning as per normal.
What is it about December 12, 2012 that got many around the world so fixated?
End of an era, Milky Way energy to be disrupted
Well, there are two things — both could prove to be cataclysmic and they are best described in a book, aptly titled “Apocalypse 2012: A Scientific Investigation Into Civilisation’s End” by Lawrence E. Joseph. I have not read the book but the title is self-explanatory.
For one thing, the year 2012 marks the end of a 5,000-year era in the ancient Maya’s “Long Count” calendar. After 2012, the year in the long calendar resets to zero year.
But that is not just it. There is also one other thing set to occur that day and there’s a scientific evidence to support the prediction, according to Joseph.
He writes in the book that on the winter solstice in 2012, the sun will be aligned with the center of the Milky Way for the first time in about 26,000 years. “Whatever energy typically streams to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will indeed be disrupted on 12/21/12 at 11:11 p.m. Universal Time,” he said.
So, would the be a big bang? Would the big bang prove to be just a small pop? I think the world will just go around as per normal.
Looking forward to other things in 2012
I certainly would want to get pass that year, not so much to see if indeed the world would come to an end.
Rather, I’m interested to know where blogging would take me by then. Am I already making tons of money from my blogs in 2012?
Looking forward to look back
I am certainly looking forward to look back to this day when I type this entry in a makeshift blogging corner of an empty room in an apartment in Singapore, sipping coffee and nursing a toothache, just two weeks before my scheduled transfer back to Kuala Lumpur.
I would love to be able to say, that five years ago I was a struggling newbie trying to make a dollar a month from the Internet.
Where would you want to be in December 2012?
