Asia is finally making its presence on the Internet as a domain name with the launching of “.asia”, joining the European-based “.eu” in the ever-growing list of web suffixes.
So, apart from the popular .com, .org or .net, we can have a www.myblog.asia domain name soon.
According to AFP, prices for website addresses can range from US$10 to several hundred dollars, depending on their desirability.
The report said that businesses with trademarks, governments and official bodies will be allowed to register website addresses ending with the suffix during the initial offer period. You and I and other general public will be allowed to bid from February.
Edmon Chung from DotAsia, a Hong Kong-based group that won the right to set-up the domain, said in the report: “It provides an easier way to direct customers to your products”.
He said that their research has found that “Asia” was one of the most searched-for terms. “By having a .asia website, your ranking on Google or Yahoo will become much higher”.
Hmm… I’m now thinking of a catchy web address to go with .asia. What about http://aisa.asia?
